New postdoc opportunity in AI:
AI Now is looking for two to three postdoctoral researchers whose work resonates with the Institute’s mission. This position is an ideal opportunity for scholars who are interested in understanding the growing role of AI and related technologies within social and political institutions, and who are excited by the idea of shaping a new and far-ranging research field.
QUALIFICATIONS
Eligible candidates will have received their PhD in 2016-2018 (conferred by August 2018). Start date for this position will be September 4, 2018. Postdoc fellowships are two years in length and this position will conclude at the end of June 2020.
Successful candidates will have extensive research experience and an established research track record–demonstrated by journal publications and/or conference papers and other forms of academic participation, such as program committees and editorial boards.
Candidate may be trained in any discipline, but should be driven to better understand the social and economic implications of AI and related systems, and be interested in working in an interdisciplinary environment.
Examples of relevant research areas include: issues of bias and fairness in algorithmic systems, gender representation in AI, the implications of algorithmic risk assessment in criminal justice, the geopolitical implications of artificial intelligence, the ways in which AI and automation are shaping specific labor sectors and the nature of work, the history of artificial intelligence, and the political implications of machine vision. We are also open to a range of topics and approaches that go beyond these domains.
The ideal candidate will enjoy bold and creative research design, working on collaborative teams, mentoring junior researchers, exploring new methodologies, and engaging broad audiences with their research.
The postdoctoral fellowship program is located at New York University and candidates will be expected to spend the majority of their time on-site, with the exception of travel for conferences, research, meetings, etc.
